Investment and public policy decisions increasingly rely upon our understanding of swiftly rising technologies, like blockchain and AI. Adoption of these technologies impacts how markets, businesses, and society function. Unfortunately, much of what is written on these topics lacks the rigorous insights that arise from substantive, real-world understanding of the both technologies and the policy environment in which they are being deployed. How can we be informed investors and citizens, let alone trusted advisors,

You are cordially invited to join the Princeton Roundtable on Tuesday, December 17th for a talk by Princeton University’s Professor Ed Felten. The founding Director of the Princeton University’s Center for Information Technology Policy, Prof. Felten has spent his career as a computer scientist, white-hat hacker, professor, and public servant, developing a nuanced understanding of these and other technologies that are rapidly changing our world. His research interests include computer security and privacy, and public policy issues relating to information technology. Specific topics include software security, Internet security, cryptocurrencies, social and policy implications of artificial intelligence, electronic voting, and cybersecurity policy.

Formerly White House Deputy Chief Technology Officer and the Chief Technologist of the FTC, he is currently a member of the U.S. Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board. Felten has served as a consultant or advisor to the U.S. Departments of Commerce, Defense, Homeland Security, and Justice.

This year, he added “entrepreneur” to his many other roles, by founding and securing funding for Offchain, a blockchain-based start-up. In addition to his work on the policy and societal effects of AI, cryptocurrencies, and blockchain, Prof. Felten is known for research that highlighted the risks of computerized voting machine tampering.

This will be an interesting and enlightening evening. We hope to see you!

Cordially,
Dean R. Edelman
